Recession: Not As Depressing As It Seemsrecession
If you’re feeling down, don’t worry. You’ve got company. Economists and psychologists say that recessions tend to make nearly everyone less happy.
The good news is that recent research suggests that as long as you don’t lose your job, your mood probably won’t sour as much. People who are not directly affected by the recession will only show small changes in their mood and satisfaction in life. We do find in poor economic times you get dips in happiness, but they don’t last long. Money may buy happiness, but not very much.
Other studies show that an individual’s level of happiness tends to be stable in good times and bad. A polling firm asked 1,000 people every night how they felt. It was found that moods do jump around a lot. People are happier on the weekends. Holidays are also big mood boosters. In general, the nation’s mood has remained stable the whole year even as the economy has deteriorated.

healthAre You Risking Your Health?
One of the most important aspects of living a healthy and prosperous life is understanding “risk.” Being able to understand and analyze situations in life that affect health. Accessing “risk” is nothing more than collecting information, weighing the alternatives and then making appropriate decisions based on the information. Here are few simple steps to accurately access risk that can effect positive changes in our lives:

  • Are you eating a healthy diet and getting enough exercise and good quality sleep?
  • What do you stand to gain if you change your present circumstances? Assess the “up-side” potential. More often than not we only look at the “down-side” risk and forget the benefits.
  • Limit the “down-side” if you happen to make a wrong decision. Don’t continue down a path if it does not produce results. This is very important in weight loss programs.
  • Reduce your risk by being smart! Understand the situation and seek advice of experts in the field of health and nutrition. This includes finding and forming partnerships to receive support and get good advice.
  • Have a fall-back position. If the decision you make fails to produce the desired results, be prepared to take a long hard look at the situation and be prepared to change what you are doing.

Everything in life involves some element of risk. Driving your car, meeting someone new, crossing the street…but we do them everyday. Winners in life are willing to accept the risk and continue on their way! You will reap benefits for your effort and live a happier, healthier life.

springThink Spring!
Although spring is not here yet—here are some helpful hints to cure the winter blues:
Exercise- The last thing you want to do in the wintertime is go for a run, but that doesn’t mean you can’t go to your local gym and sweat it out there.
Let the sun shine in- Open your curtains and soak up the sun. Even through the glass, you will get a healthy dose of vitamin D and clear the cobwebs from your mind.
Get out of the house- It may be freezing outside and warm inside but if you don’t get out the blues will just increase. A walk or even a drive can get the blood flowing and the mind glowing.
Book it- Read a book or watch a movie that takes place in a warm sunny place.
Get a sun lamp- It’s not the cure but it alleviates some of the symptoms.
Sock it to you- Get some warm socks to warm those icebergs you call feet. Having constantly cold feel is just miserable.
Talk it out with a friend- Misery loves company, and even though it seems like it, winter won’t last forever. Think positively and before long you will be complaining about the summer humidity.
Put down the drink- Sometimes it seems like the only thing that brightens your spirits is to have a “spirit.” Overdoing it can add a hangover to your misery and decrease circulation, which means even colder extremities.
Look for good deals and fly south for winter- It doesn’t have to be all the way to Rio; a stay in Florida or on a Caribbean Island should do the trick.
